2008 Christmas – Kg Sinai Baru (and Kg Koloi too)

After our Kg Sungai Dalam service, we proceeded out for lunch at our regular Sang Lee Kopitiam (Kedai Kopi & Sayor Choy Hing). We also needed to wait for our Good doctor Joseph who would be joining us for the Kg Sinai trip. He was also bringing a replacement keyboard for us.

After reloading supplies and transferring equipment off to the four 4x4s, we proceeded into Kg Sinai Baru. With a thick canopy, this grade 7 (very challenging) trail never dries out and the sharp z-bend and 30 degree inclines make going slow, but still surmountable.

The Hall at Kg Sinai Baru was decorated with balloons and streamers — an amazing festive sight in the middle of the jungle. As dinner prep was just starting, the team immediately got busy helping out with washing and chopping vegetables or even taking a hand at the wok frying curry chicken or eggs.

The service started at 7:30 and was joined by several people from Kampung Koloi. Kong Weng started the message with the gift of teddy bears, illustrating that salvation was a freely given gift — no strings attached, and like the little kids who accepted the bears without question, we too should openly embrace this gift of Love this Christmas season! After another message of hope and encouragement, five of the villagers came forth for the altar call to accept the greatest gift to all humanity that night.

Afte the service ended, we adjourned to the headman’s house for a sumptious dinner before bedding down for the night. Light rain calmed us down to sleep and the morning sunrise with misty mountains greeted us the next morning. With a very wet trail, we descended a grade 8 trail which called for extremely skillful driving with a minimal use of brakes! The good Lord saw us up and down without any problems and soon, we were heading back to KL in no time at all!
