Bandar Kinrara 5 CG & Kenosis Home fellowship lunch

IT was the Bandar Kinrara 5 cell group’s turn on Sunday, 27 Nov 2011 to host the monthly fellowship lunch for the Kenosis brothers who are worshipping at PJEFC.

Various CGs have been taking turns to host these men who are residents of Kenosis Home, a non-profit drug rehabilitation centre. Our group thought it would be a good experience to encourage these brothers in their journey to recovery and restoration through food and fellowship. Being small in number, we invited a few other people to join in.

It was a simple but fun affair, kicked off with a short introduction by long-time PJEFC member Allen Kam. Through his initiative, this group of Kenosis residents have found a “home church” in PJEFC as part of their re-entry into society. Other groups of Kenosis residents are attending various churches in Petaling Jaya. Allen explained the ministry of Kenosis Home, and how important it is for other Christians to walk alongside the brothers who have turned away from their old life.

Pastor Nicky Cheah, representing the PJEFC leadership and pastoral team, read from a Psalm and spoke about how each of us are wonderfully made by God and precious in His eyes. Next was an ice-breaker game to help everyone know each other’s names and interests or likes. Then it was time for lunch and everyone moved from the Teen Chapel room where the meeting started out to the church foyer to enjoy a simple packed meal catered by PJEFC member Doris Ang.

During lunch, we sat with different Kenosis brothers and enjoyed listening to their stories. They have been through a lot in life and only the grace of God could have brought them to where they are today! This is a fact they all acknowledge and are so eager to share with others. We count it a privilege to have become their friends and to be able to know their struggles, hopes and joys! This lunch was definitely a simple but meaningful way to bless those who really need encouragement and acceptance and we would urge other cell groups to do it, too.
