PJEFC, OA celebrate school break together

TRAS (Pahang): A little effort can go a long way. And all it took to bring joy and cheer to more than 40 Orang Asli (OA) students on Saturday, 12 Nov 2011, their minders and the pastors in Kebun Semoa was a few hours and a lot of passion.

To mark the end of the 2011 school year, 15 adults and five children from five cell groups took a two-hour drive on a rainy Saturday morning to Tras, Pahang to hold a year-end party at Kebun Semoa.

Besides a worship session, the children were entertained by a magic show, treasure hunt and a story-telling session by PJEFC’s cell groups.

The day began at 8am when PJEFC’s missions director Looi Lai Kit made a special detour to pray with the group before they left for Tras.

At Kebun Semoa, Albert Lim led the way in the morning with senior citizens Tan Git Siong (on guitar) and Fong Voon Seng in a rousing worship session. The worship lasted some 30 minutes with Kebun Semoa’s pastoral team and minders joining in the spirited bout.

Next up was Daniel Loh who mesmerized the children and had everyone laughing with his plethora of magical coins, ropes and a disappearing water-in-the-cup trick.

First-timer Chee Siew Hoong, who home schools her children, showed her skills in Bahasa Malaysia when she shared the Parable of the Lost Sheep with the children.

To get the children involved, she had them come up to colour the home-made drawings she used to illustrate the story session.

Before the children were treated to a simple meal of fried mee, rice, drumsticks and cupcakes, the students were sent on a treasure hunt for chocolate coins by Khoo Li Ying.

The party ended with a prayer for the OA students and Semoa led by Tham Kong Weng before a group photo session.

“I’m very pleased with this year’s trip,” said Kong Weng after the tiring day had ended. “There were a lot of newcomers and volunteers from different cell groups.”

The PJEFC representative to Semoa’s board of trustee said that such trips brought members of all ages together to work on a common cause, which is to bless others.

“By bringing the different cell groups and age members, we were able to be more relational with one another. We got to work together, laugh with one another and get to know each other just a little bit more,” said Kong Weng.

And like retired Voon Seng said the following day in church, “It was quite fun, wasn’t it?”
