6 June '10 Ministry Promo

A couple of months have passed since our inaugural Super Sundae where we defined, more clearly, for you PJEFC’s Vision, Philosophy of Ministry and Growth Process. Our objective is to move members of PJEFC from Connect to Grow to Serve to Go; all centring around Exalt and undergirded by Prayer. This is to be the spiritual DNA of PJEFC, in all our ministries and cell groups. I believe, if we do this, it will make us into a balanced healthy growing church.

It was heartening to hear that people want to be more involved in the church as a result of Super Sundae. I want to welcome you on board. Some already know exactly how and where you want to be involved; others may not. So, this is what we are going to do….

Each month we’ll be getting one of the ministries to do a promotion (Ministry Promo). They’ll be given “air-time” at the Sunday services to give us an update on their ministries (and to excite us so that we want to get involved). They’ll also be setting up booths at the Concourse to share more information about their ministries, and to sign you up on the dotted line!

Kicking off for us this month is the Missions Department (Sunday, 13 & 20 June). In July it’ll be the Family Life Ministry and in August, the Welfare Ministry. If you would like to render your services to help them set up their information booths please contact Looi Lai Kit (Missions), Pr Irene Lee (Family Life) and TC Thoe (Welfare).

One of the things that the Missions Department will be promoting are the mission trips it’s organising. I believe every Christian should go on mission trips once every few years (at least). This is a good point of involvement in missions, and maybe, it might just turn out to the tipping point for you to seriously engage in missions; not necessarily as a career-missionary, but making missions a life-purpose. (Nb. We’re about “Empowering Generations for Global Reach”.)

On another matter. Throughout June we’ll be having a series of guest speakers. A couple were planned; the others just landed on our feet! Having guest speakers for a whole month is not something I would do, if it wasn’t something that “just happened”. I believe in having in-house speakers take the bulk of the preaching and with the senior pastor taking a major portion. In-house speakers know the needs of the church and can speak directly to those needs. The senior pastor, besides the above, is also the point-man to provide direction and to set the spiritual tone of the church. And there’s no better place to do that than from the pulpit as he preaches the Word of God.

Back to our guest speakers. This morning we are pleased to have Rev. Jeremiah Yap, the group senior pastor of the New Life Restoration Centre group of churches preach the Word. He was the speaker at our just concluded Leaders’ Retreat and I’m sure that, again, this morning he will bring us a message from the Lord.

Our speaker next Sunday will be Bishop Edward Grobovenko from Russia. More than 10 years ago, PJEFC, together with a number of other churches in Malaysia, through TT Quah’s Gospel Avenues provided financial support for a church planting movement in Russia. That has since mushroomed into many very large churches. Now in this “second phase” PJEFC is again doing its bit to help this visionary leadership to plant churches in regional centres that will spawn more churches in outlying towns and villages. It will be a thrill to hear directly from this man whom God is using so powerfully. Please brush up on your Russian.

On the following Sunday, 20 June, Au Yong Mun Heng from World Outreach will take the pulpit. Being a missions man, it is quite obvious what he will be speaking on. Hence, the Missions Promo during this time and also the Missions Seminar, Stop the World I Want to Get On on Saturday, 19 June.

Then finally on 27 June we’ll be having Dr. Ron Choong from the Academy of Christian Thought. He’s a Malaysian based in New York with multi-disciplinary scholarship to challenge us to think—Christianly.

Keep your ears open to what the Lord is saying to you.
