10 August '08 Vacation Bible School

“Sons are a heritage from the Lord, children a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one’s youth.” (Ps 127:3-4)

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these.” (Mt 19:14)

These are a couple of the most common Scripture verses that speak about the value and importance of children to the Lord. And the Lord has entrusted to us the care, nurture and training of these little ones into our hands—whether as parents, school teachers or Sunday School teachers. We are called to do our best and to give our best to this responsibility.

Let me once again, on behalf of the church say a big “Thank You” to all the Children’s Ministry teachers and workers (including those at Playgroup & EIP) for your tireless efforts.

Before the year is up they’ll be called upon again to “gird up their loins” and garner another surge of concentrated energy for the Vacation Bible School (17-21 Nov). Obviously they need help.

I am well aware of what is required to run a VBS, and I’ve been directly involved in VBS on at least a couple of occasions. (Maybe, you can’t believe that I can relate with children. I can—for one week!) I also know the impact that VBS can make on the children when it is run well and everyone involved is committed to the task at hand. When teachers teach with conviction, when action songs are sung vibrantly, and when the desired impact we want to make in the lives of the children is fervently and persistently prayed into their lives.

It may appear as if VBS is still a long way away. Actually, it is not. If we want to do a good job, we need a lot of lead time for preparation. The sooner you can commit yourself, the sooner the Team leaders can tell you what you need to do (and of course, to start praying!).

Watch the promo. Consider how you can get involved. Check with Eddy Hua (Children’s Ministry Director) or Irene Chin (VBS Coordinator) for more information. And sign up at the i-Counter.May the Lord bless the Children’s ministry at PJEFC and use it impact children. And I don’t mean just our own children, but also the children of the churched.
