9 Aug '09 A Wonderful Campaign

It’s been a very eventful two months for the church (longer if you add the preparation time)—doing the Purpose Driven Life Campaign, and culminating with Project Harvest. Has it been worthwhile? I dare say it has been very worthwhile. The results speak for themselves, and I’m not just talking about statistics, but its effects on the hearts of all those who participated, the spiritual muscles that have been developed and the new impetus that it has given the church.

Those who didn’t think they could share their faith, discovered that they could—by God’s grace. Those who were fearful have found new courage. Many in the process learnt to pray more intensely and with greater faith. Many learnt to share their faith tactfully and boldly. And now, everyone has a tool in hand which they can use any time. In fact, some have just started on the programme with their friends. I say, “Go for it; use it, do it, and I am certain that God will bless you with it.”

I really want to THANK ALL OF YOU WHO PARTICIPATED in the PDLC and took ownership of it. This is what I call “alignment”. When every member aligns himself/herself to what the Lord is doing in the church, an exponential power is released that will enable us to do more than we can do individually. Unity is God’s will and He blesses it. Now, good as all this has been; the truth is, ‘We’ve only just begun.’ Will you press in with me?

Secondly, I must also say a BIG “THANK YOU” to LAI SHEONG & HER TEAM (Sally Lee, Chee Heng, Nancy Liew, Git Siong, Erwin Ng & Ray Chew, and not forgetting tech-man, Ewe Jin, who did more than put the video together and Leon Lai for designing the publicity materials). Together they put in a lot of work into the preparation; without which PDLC wouldn’t have happened. Its people like these that give me great joy to be the pastor of PJEFC.

Last week, at the EFCM Ministerial meeting I shared with the other pastors what we were doing, and to say the least, they showed keen interest to do something similar. Doing evangelism over a sustained period of time in small groups by the whole church, and reinforcing it at the Sunday services is something unheard of in many churches. It’s a lot of hard work but the effectiveness speak for itself. They asked if we could help, and my instant reply was, ‘We’d be more than happy to help.’

Finally, “THANK YOU” to the PROJECT HARVEST TEAM: Adrian Ang, actors, dancers, stage-hands and AV personnel. Together you put on a great presentation for Silver Airplane 2. I know it almost didn’t happen but your tenacity made it happen. I thank God for all of you.

Finally, finally, to ALL WHO PRAYED—intensely and with perseverance, THANK YOU. Few knew you prayed…and how vital a role you played. But without you—we’d be wasting our time.

Now, for another matter. At the worhsip service this morning, 9 August, the church commissioned Lai Chin Kit as PJEFC’s missionary. Chin Kit is not a rookie, as he has already been in the field for about four years. Its time then, that we formally commission him as a missionary sent out by PJEFC.

The commissioning is both a recognition of Chin Kit’s call to missions as well as the church’s appointment of Chin Kit as its missionary. In effect he is the arm of the church reaching out beyond the borders of Malaysia and into cross-cultural missions. What he does, then, is what the church does. And he will need all the support we can give him. Not all of us can be “go-ers” but many of us can be “supporters” in prayer, finance and missionary care. Please check with Lai Kit, PJEFC’s Missions Director, on how you can directly partner Chin Kit.

As PJEFC has little or no experience in sending long-term missionaries in cross-cultural missions, we’re obviously not adequately positioned to direct Chin Kit’s work, nor to look after Chin Kit’s welfare. This is where a Missions Agency, such as Interserve, plays the needful role. We are thankful for this partnership; a tripartite partnership between the Church, the Missions Agency and the Missionary to serve the Lord and for the extension of His Kingdom.
