For 12 Sundays, beginning from 6th September, we’ll be doing a series of messages from the Minor Prophets. The title of the series will be called, Minor Prophets: Mega Word. It will be just one message from each of the Minor Prophets. The series will not be in the sequence as they appear in your Bible nor will they follow some kind of chronological order. Simply because the speakers have been given some liberty in choosing the book they want to speak on.
• Sept 6 Hosea
• Sept 13 Joel
• Sept 20 Amos
• Sept 27 Obadiah
• Oct 4 Habakkuk
• Oct 11 Micah
• Oct 18 Zephaniah
• Oct 25 Jonah
• Nov 1 Nahum
• Nov 8 Haggai
• Nov 15 Zechariah
• Nov 22 Malachi
Here’s a headstart for you. As some of the books, like Hosea, Amos & Zechariah, are not so short that you may read in one sitting, you will want to start reading them ASAP. It will certainly be to your profit to read the respective books before they are preached.
Obviously, the speakers will not be able to cover a lot of ground in one message (especially for the larger books or those with a number of themes). The primary purpose of the sermons is to bring home the key message of the book and applying it to our lives today.
On Friday you’ll get another opportunity to work through the message at your Cell Group meeting. Some background material and discussion questions will be given to your cell leader to facilitate a discussion that will help you go deeper and, more importantly, to apply the teaching of God’s Word into your life.
To reinforce this series of teaching from the Minor Prophets we’ve also arranged for the Adult Bible School to conduct classes on 1. Deuteronomy, and 2. Zechariah. Look out for the publicity and registration forms.
Deuteronomy is important because it sets the background and the benchmark from which the prophets bring their rather disturbing words to the people of God (who should know better!). You wouldn’t want to miss the opportunity to have a better grasp of this book.
We had wanted to do a few of the Minor Prophets at the ABS in view of the pulpit series, but time does not permit us. So, we have to settle for just one. Why Zechariah? Because it is one of the toughest Minor Prophets to tackle; with its many hard-to-understand symbols and also visions of the End Times. If you want to straighten out your confusion, here’s the opportunity.
“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth” (2 Tim 2:15)
“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says” (James 1:22)
