It was with great delight at the Congregational Meeting last Sunday that our Elder & Chairman, Min Chik, announced the appointment of a new elder and two new deacons: Tee Wong Heng, Choo Chew Yin and Tang Lai Yuen respectively. This morning, at the worship service, we’re happy to introduce them to you and to commission them into their new leadership roles in PJEFC.
Since the AGM, held at the end of March, the Oversight renewed efforts to bring on-board new elders and deacons. It does seem that we have taken a long time. Part of the reason is because we cannot rush into weighty matters such as the appointment of leaders without much prayer and consideration. The other part of the reason is because the potential candidates themselves needed much time to pray and consider the leadership appointment with their spouses. (For your information, we had approached three others who declined the invitation.)
Min Chik shared with us at the Congregational Meeting, the “credentials” or “(spiritual) resume” of these three new leaders, and especially their “record” in PJEFC.
Wong Heng has been worshipping at PJEFC since 1989, making him a veteran of about 20 years. And during this time he’s been involved in the life and ministries of the church as a Sunday School teacher, CG leader, Zone leader and Deacon. He has run, together with his better half, Heng Chan, the Marriage Course and conducted Pre-Marital Counselling. He’s also currently involved in the Healing & Deliverance Ministry (aka, Shalem Ministry). And like all good elders, he’s married to only one wife, and together they have raised up four wonderful children.
CY Choo is married to Kiam Koon and they have three children, whom, I’ve just gotten to understand, have been instrumental in encouraging their father not to be a Jonah. This God-centredness of the children, in reverse, is a testimony to the way that CY & KK, as parents, have raised and taught their children. CY and his family have been with PJEFC for 15 years, and in the last seven years or so he’s been involved in the UTAR ministry, CG Ministry as a CG leader and in the humble ministry of directing traffic.
(As an aside, but not a small matter, I want to say a BIG THANK YOU to all who have been serving as TRAFFIC WARDENS. It’s a service behind the scenes that few appreciate. But be assured that the Lord sees and appreciates; and so do I.)
Tang Lai Yuen, Carol and their three children have also been with PJEFC for 15 years. Within a short few years, Lai Yuen was already actively involved in the ministries of the church: first as an assistant CG leader and then very quickly “promoted” to be a CG leader. And as the saying goes: Behind every successful man is his wife. It is no different for Lai Yuen as Carol stands ably by him to labour together with him in the leadership of the CG. At some point they were also involved in the Marriage Encounter and Alpha Courses.
I believe that these three are all good men (with godly wives supporting them), and we’re glad to have them as part of the church leadership team. Let’s welcome them and support them as they strive to serve you, the church at PJEFC. Pray for them and their families. Pray for all of us in the leadership of the church—the Oversight, the Board and the Pastoral team. We need it!
On behalf of the leadership, I want to THANK ALL OF YOU for your support, encouragement and trust; as you allow us to lead you into what we believe is the calling, purpose and direction of the Lord for PJEFC.
Empowering Generations for Global Reach.
PrSH.
