Sunday Service
Water Baptism Sunday

“The Divine Initiative”

Our Asian culture and values have often
coloured our view of God in that we think we
must do something to merit His care, His
help, His love. It is almost incomprehensible
that a divine being would offer salvation,
spiritual gifts, and abundant life freely to us
and bear the cost Himself. Yet this is what
the heavenly Father did when He sent Jesus
Christ to bear the sins of the world so that
whosoever believes in the Son of God will
not perish but have everlasting life. This is
the divine initiative: That while we were still
sinners, Christ died for us.

A few weeks ago, Elder Chee Yan spurred
us on to reclaim the Gospel message. In our
desire to serve our Lord and be a good
Christian, we may have forgotten aspects of
that lovely Good News. Our spirit benefits
from recalling the deep love of God, taking
in the wonder of His actions, and reflecting
on how our lives respond to an awesome
Saviour.

Today, we will witness brothers and sisters
respond to the divine initiative as they
follow Jesus in the step of obedience known
as water baptism. This act of obedience is
an outward expression of an inner conviction.
While we cannot see faith, we can see
the acts and works of our faith. Hence, at
this baptism service, we are witnesses to
our brethren’s faith in Jesus Christ! Let us
rejoice with them and thank God for His
divine initiative!
