Washing of feet.
This scene of Jesus washing his disciples’ feet is always acted out every Holy Week during Maundy Thursday (the day before Good Friday). On that Thursday across the world, many churches arrange a service where the senior ministers, copying Jesus, wrap themselves in towels and wash the feet of 12 people.
This act serves as a standard of humble service and therefore a call to all of Jesus’ disciples to follow his example- “Well, then; if I as your master and teacher, washed your feet just now, you should wash each other’s feet. I’ve given you a pattern, so that you can do things in the same way that I did (John 13.14-15).
And we can only do things in the same way that Jesus did when we are able to grasp the WHY, HOW AND WHO of servant leadership.
