‘A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.’
John 13: 34 & 35
We have just concluded our Annual Board & Pastors Leadership Retreat over the weekend of 20th September 2019. Away from the hot and hazy Klang Valley, we relished the invitingly cool air of the Maranatha House of Prayer at Janda Baik, a conducive venue for our getaway. We fasted (one day), bonded, prayed, reflected on 2019 and charted the directions for 2020 and beyond.
There are many items of thanksgiving, with ongoing collective breakthroughs in many key ministries – Prayer, Sunday School, Impact, 2545, Women’s & Men’s Breakthrough Weekends, JOY, Chinese Church, Nepali, Urdu etc. Our English and Nepali congregations continue to increase; albeit at a slow pace. The Chinese Church has stabilized after a period of declining numbers. The Urdu ministry is a surprise unplanned addition.
To encourage communication and foster relationships, our church office is currently being renovated (the last major renovation was over 10 years ago). With an open concept, it will have an expanded space for incoming staff (Chinese Church, Nepali, Urdu, BM ). The EFCM (Malaysia) has also requested a desk to house its full-time Secretary General in PJEFC office. So much to thank God for.
For 2020, PJEFC’s focus to make Discipleship our dominant culture will be on “loving one another as Jesus love us” (John 13 : 34 & 35). Ps Jeremy will roll out our Discipleship Framework in steps, first to the Board Members, then Ministry and CG Leaders and then the rest. We will initiate a yearly PJEFC Discipleship Weekend beginning July 2020. Watch out for this!
Overall, we have had a wonderfully refreshing time in the Lord at the Retreat. The atmosphere was positive and exciting. The Lord was with us. And He spoke and ministered to us individually and as a group.
As in previous retreats, many challenges, perhaps more than before, were discussed. The lively “out of the box” comments from our younger leaders were refreshing. We did not feel heavily burdened by these challenges, unlike previous years. As we bring them before our Lord Jesus, we felt lightness, an experience difficult to explain in words, but was very real. The promise of Jesus in Matthew 11: 29 & 30 became alive to us.
We thank you for your prayers for us. We give glory to God!

Book of James
This series addresses common challenges that we may face throughout the year and perhaps, even more so in the upcoming 4th quarter as we close 2019.
With an economically gloomy 2020 ahead, and a super busy period for the church, we need to hear words of hope, encouragement, and even practical steps to press on. Thus, we look to the wisdom in James.
